Hubert (3.11) He is said to be born in the year 655.
Due to his works in propagating the religious faith
among the population of South Brabant and the Ardennes
he was made Bishop of Maastricht around the
year 705 after the murder of his predecessor Lambert.
During the course of his bishopric he transferred the
seat from Maastricht to Liege where in 715 he had
Lambert’s remains transported.
He died on 30th May 727 at Tervueren near Bussel,.
In 743 his remains were exhumed and in 825 they
were transferred to the Monastery of Andagio in the
Ardennes which bears his name since then. In 1568
the Monastery was occupied by the Hugonots and the
reliquiae were dispersed.
He is the patron saint of the Bishopric of Liege
and the Ardennes; patron of hunters, shooters,
founders, metal workers, turniers, butchers, opticians,
manufacturers of mathematical instruments and
of mathematicians. He protects dogs and especially
against hydrophobia and the bites of other animals.
