Nativity Scene Animals

The company Lepi Woodcarvings, established in the small Italian town Ortisei in Val Gardena, South Tyrol, was founded in 1920 by Leo Prinoth senior. What first began with little woodcarving-work for several clients became a successful workplace for quite a lot of carvers. They are all following the century long tradition of woodcarving in Val Gardena. Lepi Woodcarvings is still owned by the Prinoth family and now lead by the son and grand-sons.

The nativity scene animals are made out of oak-wood, maple, lime or stone pine. Each animal is carved with unique detail and created with great affection. The nativity scene animals are carefully stained, waxed and polished or painted in oil colours. Some of them are even refined with golden details. The animals which are just left in untreated wood are also very beautiful.

You can get more than 200 different styles and sizes of animals. The online shop of Lepi Woodcarvings for example offers wooden sheep, lambs and all kinds of birds. There are wooden oxes, donkeys and a big collection of cats and dogs. You will even find hares and tiny little mouses. Hand crafted wild animals such as bears, foxes and deers are also belonging to the nativity scene animals. Not to forget the king animals such as elephants, camels and horses.

Each nativity scene animal carries the special Lepi Woodcarving signature which is a certificate of authenticity.
